Curly Locks (Version 1)

While this is a nursery rhyme, it can be used to teach several musical elements to older students.

This song is great for teaching:

  • Ternary form (ABA).
  • Grace note.
  • Secondary dominant chord (using the C# in the last bar of section 'B')
  • The rhythmic element 'ka-tim-ti' (semiquaver, dotted quaver, quaver / sixteenth note, dotted eighth note, eighth note).
  • The melodic element 'fi' (sharpened 'fa').
