This composition from the Baroque Era is useful for:

  • Working in 6/8 metre.
  • Teaching the rhythmic element tim-ka-ti, (dotted quaver, semiquaver, quaver / dotted eighth note, sixteenth note, eighth note).

The reference in the second verse to 'cheating the parson, for why should the vicar have one in ten', refers to the custom of giving one tenth of all earnings to support the Church and the clergy.
