Frere Jacques (What is the Name of this Song)

This worksheet is used in connection with the song 'Frère Jacques', and provides many opportunities for practising the rhythmic element 'tika-tika'.

In this worksheet, students will:

  1. Clap the rhythm. You might like to instruct students to also say the rhythm in time names (e.g. bar 5 and 6 - tika-tika, ti-ti, tika-tika, ti-ti)
  2. Figure out the name of the song they just clapped.
  3. Engage in rhythmic practise by completing any of the 8 suggested practical activities. Students can complete all 8, or the students or teacher can select which ones to do. These can be done individually, with a partner or as a class.

Teaching note:

  • These practical tasks can be used for practise or assessment.
