Tree Song

This sweet, inspirational song has a beautiful melody. A wonderful song for your class or choir to sing at a concert!

It can be the catalyst for discussing with children how they can grow up happy, regardless of their circumstances (i.e. the good times 'sun' or the hard times 'shadow'). How they can hold their heads up and plant their roots (e.g. their beliefs and integrity) down deep.

It is also great for:

  • Practising the melodic element 'fa'.
  • Keeping a steady beat. Because of the constant flow of quavers (eighth notes) this one can tend to race if the singers are not careful!

Performance Notes:

  • Bring out the musical beauty of this song by singing 4 bar phrases rather than two bar phrases. I.e. as much as possible, have children refrain from breathing at the end of bars 2, 6, 10 and 14.
  • You might like to add a pause to the last note of the verses to add poignancy - and a chance to breathe!
