Syllable Cube (African Animals)

  • In preparing to teach rhythm, it can be useful to work with students on clapping syllables.
  • I firstly do this by clapping and saying my name as an example and then have the students clap and say their names. Any students who struggle I clap and say their name then have them copy me.
  • Next we sit or stand in a circle and take turns gently rolling a syllable cube. Whatever picture ends up facing up is the word the chosen student needs to clap and say.
