Beatsheets

Beat sheets are a useful resource for practising beat with young students. Some suggestions on how to use them are on the right.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Have individual students point to each picture on the chart on the beat while singing the song. If you have not introduced the term “beat” yet, you can ask students to "keep time to the song by pointing to the pictures as you sing the song".
  • This style of activity is useful for the practise of beat or for assessment purposes.
  • Black and white beat sheets are useful to give each student as they cost less to reproduce and students can then colour them in if desired. (Or you could have students colour just the beats with tas or just the beats with ti-tis as a more advanced activity.)
  • I use a colour beat sheet where possible for demonstration purposes for visual appeal.

"Great Aussie site - nicely done!"
