The Virgin Mary Had A Baby Boy

This traditional West Indian Carol has lots of very catchy syncopation and is enjoyable to sing.

It is great for:

  • Teaching the rhythmic element 'tre-o-la' - crotchet (quarter note) triplets.
  • Preparing and practising the melodic element 'ta' (flattened 'ti').
  • Teaching melodic sequence (see bars 1-2 then up a 4th in bars 3 and 4).
  • Finding and singing a falling octave interval ('so' to 'low so').
