Oh Mary Don't You Weep (with melodic element 'di')

With this beautiful Spiritual you can:

  • Teach the rhythmic element 'syncopa' (in the song it is notated using a tie, but can easily be written as quaver, crotchet, quaver). 'Syncopas' are found in bars 5, 10, 12 and 14.
  • Teach the melodic element 'di' (sharpened 'do').
  • Find the melodic sequences!
  • Have classes and choirs sing in call and response. The first and third lines are the 'call'. The second and fourth lines are the 'response'.
