Hop Old Squirrel (4-4)

This simple American Folk Song is great for:

  • Word and action improvisation (see teaching suggestions on the PDF download).
  • Teaching the melodic elements 'do', 're', 'mi' to older beginners.
  • Practising the melodic element 're'.
  • Preparing and practising the rhythmic element 'sa'. To do this I would substitute the word 'squirrel' for a one syllable word, e.g. cat or dog.
