Creepy Crawlies (Simple Time Signature no1)

This appealing worksheet is designed to practise:

• 2/4 metre (time signature)
• 3/4 metre (time signature)
• 4/4 metre (time signature)

Rhythms featured are:

• ta (crotchet / quarter note)
• ti-ti (quavers / eighth note)
• sa (crotchet rest / quarter note rest)
• too (minim / half note)
• sa-aa (minim rest / half note rest)
• tika-tika (semiquavers / sixteenth notes)

Students will need to realise that semiquavers can be grouped in 2s as well as 4s. This worksheet can be used to prepare students for 'tika' in compound time.

Question 1 - students discover which rhythm is 'the odd one out' then write in the time signature.

Question 2 - students add a '2', '3' or '4' to complete the time signature of given rhythms.

Question 3 - in this practical question, students have a range of difficulty levels to choose to complete. They range from clapping /tapping in 1-2 parts, performing ostinati and composing short melodies with given rhythms.
