Copycats Collection (Resources for Teaching Skips on the Staff)

  • This collection is designed to support the teaching of skips on the staff (for 28% less than downloading all these resources individually)!
  • Your Copycats Collection includes:

    1. 2 x bright and interesting stories (1 for lines, 1 for spaces)
    2. 2 x rhymes (1 for lines, 1 for spaces)
    3. 2 x "copycats on the staff" A4 posters (1 for lines, 1 for spaces)
  • The stories are an illustrated version of the rhymes with added narration. These visually appealing stories can be used as part of an overall approach to teaching skips on the staff. Through these stories, children are introduced to the idea that notes that are a skip apart are copycats. E.g.If one is in a space, all the notes that are a skip apart are in spaces. These stories also help reinforce that we count spaces and lines starting from the bottom of the staff.

  • The rhymes can be used to introduce the concept of 'skips' being 'copycats'. By using these rhymes, while adding notes to a staff, students can learn that (for example) a note that is a skip up or down from a note on a line is a 'copycat' and will also live on a line.

  • The posters can be used as a visual aid while saying the rhymes.
