Bye-lo (Staff Reading Lines and Spaces)

  • Students can follow the pictures of babies on the staff as they sing "Bye-lo".
  • This resource has the song once with baby pictures on lines and once in the spaces. This provides subconscious preparation for skips.
  • This activity prepares students for the concept of notes written on the staff as they follow the melodic contour of the song.
  • When singing the song with the staff pictures, it helps the students' developing understanding to sing at a higher pitch for the notes that are higher on the staff and a lower pitch for the notes that are lower on the staff. (Even though there is no clef at this stage.)
