Brisbane Ladies

Background: This Australian folk song is an adaptation of the traditional English naval song 'Spanish Ladies'. A Jackaroo called 'Saul Mendelsohn', (who later became a shopkeeper), is credited with writing the lyrics which date back to at least the 1870s.

This song is useful for practising:

  • 3/4 metre
  • The rhythmic element 'tum ti' (dotted crotchet, quaver / dotted quarter note, eighth note)
  • The melodic element 'low ti'.
