When sung well, this 17th century 3 part canon is breath-takingingly beautiful - particularly if you can sing it in a favourable acoustic.

It is great for:

• Singing in 3 part canon.
• Working on vocal technique - the range is an 11th (an octave + a 3rd) and there are some large leaps. Breath control is also very important for the long phrases.
• Practising the rhythmic element 'ties'.
• Practising the melodic element 'di' (sharpened 'do').
• Teaching the picardy third (also known as picardy cadence or tierce de picardie) - when a major chord of the tonic finishes a piece of music that has been in a minor tonality.
