Marianina (C Major)

This folk song was very popular in the fifties and sixties - many children learned it in schools - with good reason! It's a beautiful, fanciful song and is easily remembered!

The tune is from an Italian folk song of the same name. The Italian song is about a broken heart. This English version is about a fairy.

Useful for teaching:

  • Melodic sequence.
  • The rhythmic element 'ti-tum'.
  • The melodic element 'si' (sharpened so).
